With an increased amount of people in smaller homes, in apartments or with roommates, it’s nice to be able to create a unique space in a small space.
Bathrooms are an easy place to start.
Here are some tips to help you decorate a small bathroom:
- Choose a color scheme: Pops of colors can create drama and dynamic in the space your redoing. But light colors can make any small space feel bigger. The light bounces off the lighters colors giving you a brighter space. Consider using white, beige, or pastel colors for your walls, tiles, and accessories. You can ad color with pictures, shelf accessories or towels.
- Maximize storage space: Use shelves, cabinets, and baskets to store your toiletries and towels. You can also use a ladder shelf or a wall-mounted cabinet to save floor space. You can buy shelves, but try DIYing them if money is tight or the space is awkward. Scrap wood makes great shelves and the brackets that attach underneath are fairly inexpensive.
- Add a mirror: Mirrors can reflect light and create an illusion of space, similar to the light-colored walls. Consider adding a large mirror above your sink or a full-length mirror on the wall. There are mirrors that even hang off the back of the door.
- Use plants: Plants can add a touch of nature and freshness to your bathroom. Consider adding a small potted plant or a vase of flowers to your bathroom. If you own tropical plants already, these are great to relocate to the bathroom. They do well in the steam when you take a hot shower.
- Choose the right lighting: Lighting can make a big difference in a small bathroom. Using bright LED lights makes a big difference if there is minimal natural light in your bathroom. These fit fairly flush with the ceiling and don’t take up much room. A flatter light fixture will also make the ceiling feel higher.
